  2. Hi Marlene,
First, I love the music in your video. Who is "Voice of Truth" by? I recognize it from a movie, "Facing the Giants" or "Fireproof"? Not sure which one. Or maybe "Flywheel".
Anyway, are you the coach for the robotics team at your school? Your video definately explores different ways to inspire learning in our young people. My favorite part of this video is the interview with the two gentlemen. It made your research very relevant.
    Thanks!!

P.S. Dont forget to send Dr. Powley your list of annotated references in the dropbox! :)

  3. Hi Lynetta,
Thanks so much for your comments.
Annotated articles went into the dropbox.
I am the senior mentor of three robotics high school teams (FIRST) and several middle school FLL teams. It was my first experience with the rookie team four years ago that inspired me to pursue the PhD program in technology and inquiry learning strategies.

  4. BTW Lynetta, the background music is from Casting Crowns, Voice of Truth.
I am taking a multimedia course this quarter with Dr. Timothy Powell, any relation?

  5. Hi Michelle,
I tried to embed the video, it ran for several hours so I canceled it and posted the YouTube url. All you need to do is highlight the url and copy (not copy link), paste and it will come up.

  6. Hi Marlene,
I copied and pasted your link directly to my browser and that worked. (This may be helpful to others who also were unable to open your video link).
Re your video, I really like the way you juxtapose the unengaged pictures of students with the engaged critical thinkers. It really makes a point for critical thinking especially when you aggregate the physical reaction (dopamine) that results and its benefits for deeper learning. Thanks for sharing

If that does not work, then go to YouTube and search for 8842 MKent Video.

Sorry for the inconvenience - I tried posting the video direct to the blog and after it ran for an hour, I canceled.

  9. Hi Marlene,

I copied your web link into my browser and it worked! I was able to review your video presentation and you did an excellent job in compiling your video. I really liked the way you starting off by presenting the history. You engaged the students in your video by displaying team and independent assignments. The robotics were out of this world! Do you have your students participate in competitive events for their robotics' assignments. By the way, I emailed everyone in our community for review of my presentation video. :)

  10. Hi Marelene,
Very good presentation. Casting Crowns, fine choice for background music. I especially liked the robot building exercise and how all three groups had to work together. When I worked for General Motors it was a challenge trying to get IE, EE, and ME to agree on a project.

  11. Hi Keith, since you came from industry, you have an appreciation for the team building - in fact, that was your topic:-)
The students are given the game and the rules. They do the rest and they only have 6 weeks to complete the build, test, and ship. It's going to start up again this January. You can go to the FIRST website (usfirst.org) and check it out (FRC are the high school teams)- it is nationwide and involves thousands of teams, some international.
I enjoyed your presentation - it was a great metaphor!!

  12. Hello Marlene,

You have done an excellent job with your video. I found your topic interesting because Inquiry Based Learning was the learning model the previous Dean of Academics used at my organization. I like the real world situations you used in your project. The real world situation and the quote was John Dewey was good accreditation for the actual situation.

  13. Marlene,
Well done. I loved the interviews with your students. Your video had so much life to it. I also liked your experiment with the gold fish. The students clearly learned well with your method.
    Thanks,
    Joy
